WECAM, together with Federation Of Malaysian Consumer Associations (FOMCA) and Forum Air Malaysia are disappointed and frustrated to hear that the agreement for the water industry restructuring in Selangor has lapsed.

According to the official media statement issued by the Selangor State Government, the main reason for the agreement to lapse is due to the inaction of the Federal Government in fulfilling the terms and condition as stipulated in the master agreement sign in September 2014.

Both the governments have been working relentlessly for 7 years in order to complete the water industry restructuring plan in Selangor and now we are back to square one.

Access to continous and safe drinking water is one of the basic rights for human as declared by the United Nations. This basic rights should not be treated as a bargaining chip for political mileage with the expense of the people in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. We are tired of all these nonsenses.

We want to know why Federal Government keeps requesting for extension for the completion of the water restructuring deal. If the extension is granted, what is the benefit for the people?

We are demanding both the State and Federal Goverment to stop pointing fingers and return to the negotiation table as soon as possible and complete the restructuring of the water industry in Selangor by this year.

Time is running short as the water level at the dams are dropping again and if Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant is not completed on time, water crisis will become the new norm in the richest and most modern state in Malaysia in the near future.
