PETALING JAYA: From doing the laundry at night to timing showers wisely, small changes in daily routines can go a long way in cutting energy use at home.
Water and Energy Consumers Association of Malaysia president Dr Saravanan Thambirajah said households should shift the use of high-energy appliances, such as washing machines and water heaters, to off-peak hours whenever possible.
This not only eases pressure on the electricity grid but can also potentially lower energy bills under certain tariff structures.

In 2022, a certain car brand caught heavy flak for requiring a subscription to activate heated seats in vehicles purchased by customers. Many wondered, “What’s with the need for a subscription when the heated seats are already installed in the car?”.
A year later, the car company discontinued the subscription requirement for heated seats following the backlash, but that did not spell the end for extra recurring payments to unlock other features.
While these practices have since spread to other players in the automotive industry, they’ve long been a major bugbear for consumers in the broader tech space.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians should brace for a "more difficult" period of rising costs driven by global energy turmoil and to tighten their belts by prioritising essential spending, says the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca).
Its president Datuk Dr Marimuthu Nadason said global conflicts, particularly in the Middle East, were pushing up transportation and production costs, which would inevitably filter down to consumers.
"Malaysians must accept that we are facing a new wave of cost pressures influenced by external factors beyond our control," he said.
