PUTRAJAYA: The Finance Ministry (MoF) has given special approval for the acquisition of the Dual Language Programme (DLP) textbooks through direct negotiations.

The ministry, in a statement today, said the special approval on Sept 18 last year, was made out of concern that delay would affect students sitting for major examinations.

Pusat Internet Desa (PID) seluruh negara akan ditambah baik terutama melibatkan kelajuan jalur lebar. Timbalan Menteri Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia, Eddin Syazlee Shith berkata fungsi dan perkhidmatan PID juga akan ditingkatkan mengikut keperluan masyarakat setempat.

Sebanyak 42 PID telah diwujudkan di seluruh negara sejak 2004 bagi memudahkan akses maklumat kepada penduduk luar bandar.

MIRI: The prices of leafy vegetables in markets in Sarawak have gone up by as much as 100% in places like Miri city with there being a shortage in supplies.

This is largely down to the bad weather. There have been complaints from consumers in Miri that traders at the wet market are selling the greens at exorbitant prices.

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has been urged to regulate the cost of private healthcare as part of its efforts to lessen the cost of living.

Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca) Datuk Dr Paul Selvaraj said the move would also ensure better healthcare quality for all.

He said that was among the five measures suggested by Fomca during a meeting with the Council of Eminent Persons today.

“Currently, private healthcare cost is determined by the market. And we do not know the extent of profits made as well.

“That is why we are urging for the government to intervene by regulating the cost of healthcare, through a nexus with the government sector.”

The other four suggestions made during the meeting with the council touched on transportation, childcare, housing and food.

“We have to look into the overall aspects of the costs involved in the interest of the people’s welfare.”

KUALA LUMPUR: Fluctuating petrol prices is part and parcel of doing business.

Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations chief executive officer Datuk Paul Selvaraj said : “It’s business there are no guarantees. When the prices were capped after the 14th general election and consumers were at the losing end, it’s not like they (Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia - PDAM) gave the people discounts."

KUALA LUMPUR: Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna (KPDNHEP) sedang meneliti semula undang-undang sedia ada membabitkan hak pembeli yang ditipu menerusi transaksi dalam talian.

Menterinya, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution, berkata kementerian mendapati wujudnya kesulitan daripada Tribunal Pengguna untuk mengambil tindakan kepada penjual yang menipu dalam talian.

Kerajaan perlu campur tangan isu kos pengangkutan - FOMCA

KUALA LUMPUR: Gabungan Persatuan Pengguna Malaysia (FOMCA) menggesa kerajaan campur tangan dalam isu melibatkan kos pengangkutan yang menyebabkan harga barangan tidak dapat dikurangkan walaupun berlaku penurunan harga petrol.

Timbalan Presidennya, Mohd Yusof Abdul Rahman berkata, ketika ini kebanyakan pengguna mahu penurunan harga petrol selaras dengan pengurangan harga barang.
